Cross-Contamination in Your Home

A smarter way of green cleaning:

How to Avoid Cross-Contamination in Your Home

Two of the things we are very conscientious about at Sparkling Clean, are staying true to our green cleaning commitment and being proactive about keeping homes healthy. For that purpose, we have started a tips and advice column in our blog. Check out our post on finding out if your home is really healthy!

What we've seen working with hundreds of clients of many years is that we can help you learn more about how to make sure your home is healthy. Besides making sure your home is clean, we want you to learn more about natural products and about health hazards for your family. There is a lot to learn but we also want to make it easy for you. That's why the cleaner can create a personalized cleaning plan when they first meet with you, to work around your schedule and your preferences. We are constantly trying to offer better products and systems to our customers, to make sure your home truly stays healthy.

Colored Microfiber Rags

One of the new improvements that the cleaners have already implemented across all the green cleaning service we refer is the color-coded microfiber rag system, which assigns a specific color for a specific area of the house to minimize the risk of cross-contamination. They currently use 4 colors: Blue for dusting, Red for the bathroom, Green for the kitchen and Yellow for the floor.

Color-coding rags is essential to make sure you don't use the same rag or sponge accidentally for your bathroom sink and your toilet. But what we have found since they implementing this system is that there are few safeguards against cross-contamination between households. This is especially important for people with pet allergies, or similar issues.

Have Your Own Set

That's the best way to protect your home and family

As part of our products, we therefore recommend you purchase your own sets of color-coded rags e mop pads instead of the cleaning crew bringing theirs. This way, there is literally zero risk of cross-contamination and you can rest assured that your home is not only clean but healthy from head to toe.

We offer one set of rags and one set of mop pads:

Rag Set

  • 16 color-coded microfiber rags (4 for each color)
  • 3 microfiber rags for glass and windows
  • 3 microfiber rags for special glass and chrome

This set contains a total of 22 rags and is priced at $27

Mop pads Set

  • 3 wet cleaning pads
  • 2 dry cleaning pads

This set contains a total of 5 pads and is priced at $21

The microfiber rags are made from 80% polyester and 20% nylon and are quick-dry products. Apart from the fact that this system prevents cross-contamination of bacteria, we love the color-coded microfiber rags and mop pads because they are 100% environmentally friendly: Once the crew finishes the green cleaning service, they will put all your rags and mop pads into the washing machine and all you need to do is pop them in the dryer. You can reuse them countless times which means more money in your wallet (think what paper towels and swifter mops will cost you over the course of one year alone!) and doing your bid to save the environment - even the strongest paper towel can only be used once.
